Vigil Games is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Lead Platform Programmer to join our new Publishing Operations team in Austin, Texas. The Lead Platform Programmer will be the technical lead for the team that develops and maintains Vigil’s online platform for the Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online MMO. The Publishing Operations platform encompasses the game support services, such as authentication, billing, community, e-store, customer support tools, etc. This position is responsible for designing the architecture for the publishing platform as a whole, building services and APIs, and integrating licensed services to create a stable, robust and reliable operating platform. If you have strong programming and troubleshooting skills, like the challenge of solving problems in a live environment, and love games, this is a great opportunity.Core Responsibilities
Architect, design, develop and integrate various online services required for the launch and ongoing operations of Dark Millennium Online.
Provide technical design and system architecture oversight of new features and services as needed.
Help establish software development and engineering practices for Publishing Operations and ensure that they are consistent with existing practices at Vigil Games.
Participate in testing process to ensure a stable and bug-free delivery.
Mentor other engineers and ensure system quality by performing code and design reviews.
Ensure that systems design and implementation is documented thoroughly.
Collaborate with project managers by providing reliable and accurate time estimates for task and status updates.
Work with network operations to integrate all developed services into automated deployment processes.
Provide ongoing support for existing applications.
Other responsibilities as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering with strong object-oriented programming skills.
- Large-scale software application development experience.
High-traffic transaction-oriented system architecture experience.
SQL development experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
NoSQL development experience (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB, memcached).
Web services development experience with a proven technology stack (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Java, Django).
Knowledge of Web services and related technologies such as REST, JSON, and MVC.
UNIX/Linux professional experience.
Agile and DevOps methodologies exposure.
Low-level network knowledge including packet capture, routing, firewalls, and DNS.
Familiar with higher-level network protocols such as HTTP, SNMP, SMTP, and FTP.
Understanding of encryption technologies and security techniques for web-based applications.
General knowledge of micropayment-based and subscription-based online billing systems.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
A passion for multiplayer online games.
