    Job Description:
    Vigil Games is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Software Programmer to join our new publishing operations team in Austin, Texas. The Senior Software Programmer will help lead a team that is responsible for developing, integrating and maintaining Vigil’s online service for the Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online MMO. The publishing platform encompasses the “around the game” services, such as authentication, billing, community, e-store, customer support tools, etc. This position will be responsible for building services and APIs, as well as integrating licensed services to help create a stable, robust and reliable operating platform. If you have strong programming and troubleshooting skills, like the challenge of solving problems in a live environment, and love games, this is a great opportunity.
    Core Responsibilities
    • Design, develop and integrate various online publishing applications required for the launch and ongoing service operations of Dark Millennium Online. 
    • Provide technical design and system architecture oversight of new features and services as needed.
    • Help establish software development and engineering practices for service operations and ensure that this is consistent with existing practices at Vigil Games.
    • Participate in testing process to ensure a stable and bug-free delivery.
    • Help mentor other engineers and ensure system quality by performing code and design reviews.
    • Ensure that systems design and implementation is documented thoroughly.
    • Collaborate with project managers by providing reliable and accurate time estimates for task and status updates.
    • Provide ongoing support for existing applications.
    • Other responsibilities as needed.
    Skills & Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
    • 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering with strong object-oriented programming skills.
    • Experience developing medium to large-scale software applications.
    • Familiarity designing server architectures for high-traffic database systems.
    • Database development experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
    • Professional C/C++ experience.
    • Agile development exposure.
    • Low-level network knowledge and diagnosis including packet capture, routing, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, NAT busting.
    • Familiar with higher-level network protocols such as HTTP, SNMP, SMTP, and FTP.
    • Understanding of encryption technologies and security techniques for web-based applications.
    • General knowledge of micropayment-based and subscription-based online billing systems.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
    • A passion for multiplayer online games.
